- “Gabbi is very understanding to most all situations and does her best to work with students needs if any concern is provided. She did well in guiding the class towards the right direction of learning Spanish and corrected us without putting students down if they didn’t know answers to questions or certain words in the language. She was very helpful in almost every situation and gave us ample study supplies for upcoming exams which made it easy to get an A in the course.”

- “Professor Isgar was incredibly friendly and helpful, which made this class so much easier to be interested in.”

- “Her feedback on my assignments.”
- “I liked how we played games in class and did activities that were interesting/not boring. I also like how our professor only spoke in Spanish and she was very helpful.
- “Professor Isgar showed great passion in her studies, and made expectations clear for students. Although it was a difficult class for me, Professor Isgar made it easy to understand and gave tremendous feedback and help.”
- “Profesora Gabbi’s method of instruction was successful that it did not intimidate us but rather let us learn at our own pace. It was much easier to connect with Gabbi and relate to one another I believe due to her being in grad school and equally understanding what we as students struggle with in Spanish and without.”
Spring 2022 (SPN1121, 2 sections)
- “Gabbi is very approachable and great at coming down to our level while explaining any topic. It’s clear that she truly cares about her students’ success.”
- “Helpful feedback and willingness to work 1-on-1 with you!!”
- “I love that this professor takes the time to meet with her students when they need help or just to go over the exam and explain why the answer was wrong. You can tell that she genuinely cares about her students and their success in the class. She also gave me tips on how to study, use SpanishDict website for practice and suggested I use the DuoLingo app because I told her I was having trouble understanding certain subtopics in the class. She is thorough, and I enjoyed this class overall, even though this is the hardest class I have had this semester.”
- “Professor Gabbi is a great Spanish teacher. Even though she is a student as well and very busy, she cares about her students and will help them. I ask silly things sometimes like my head blanks and she’s there always having a smile on her face and answers it.”
- “The guides for the test were helpful. The organization of the modules on canvas into sections and weeks was also really nice when I went to find something.”
- “Very clear with directions. Spanish is not my favorite subject but you are definitely one of my favorite professors this term. Thank you so much!!! I felt like I actually grasped some of the Spanish concepts finally.”

Summer A and B 2021 (SPN1121, 2 sections, REMOTE)
- “I really liked the way the course was structured. I took SPN1120 at FSU before the pandemic and I definitely preferred this method of learning Spanish better. I think that taking the quizzes after completing my Connect homework and watching the instructor’s video helped me solidify my understanding of the material. Also I liked how the class was broken up into smaller groups. In the small groups I felt more comfortable with taking risks and trying to talk more in Spanish even if it meant making a few mistakes.”
- “Gabbi’s daily lectures and activities were extremely helpful in allowing us to practice what we had learned in a low-stress setting. Additionally, the written and oral discussions were especially useful as they allowed us to demonstrate our skill while being creative with the language.”
- “Everything. She provided so many additional materials to us. I loved that we had the class on Zoom and she added extra lessons.”
- “Gabbi’s teaching method really worked for me. The time we had in Zoom practicing what we had learned over the homework allowed me to have a great understanding of the subject matter. Her directions were very clear and concise and she was also prepared. The activities were very focused on what we were learning which mad this short and very speedy semester not nearly as stressful as I thought it would be.”
- “I honestly cannot think of anything I would change, and I am not just saying that to finish this survey. I was shocked at how much I learned over this short semester. I think I made more progress this summer than I did in spring when I started Spanish 1.”
- “Gabrielle Isgar was a brilliant teacher for this course, and I believe my entire class enjoyed taking her class this summer.”
- “Gabbi was by far the best Spanish teacher that I’ve ever had! I truly wish that all of my Spanish classes had been with her, as she is an extremely kind, caring, intelligent, and overall amazing teacher. I can’t recommend her highly enough to any other student!”
- “Gabrielle was a great TA, she was flexible and willing to work with us to allow our success in her course.”
- “Meeting every day and using breakout rooms everyday helped me use the material and get more familiar. Gabbi talking in Spanish most of the time also helped a lot. She was very thorough in her explanations and made sure to repeat new material until everyone understood.”
- “She is also a very nice teacher and tries to connect with the students, which I like.”
- “She is a great Spanish teacher!”
Spring 2021 (SPN1121, 2 sections, REMOTE)
- “I really enjoyed Gabrielle Isgar’s teaching throughout the course of the semester. I have always wanted to learn Spanish and Professor Isgar has helped me get to where I wanted to be. I finally began to understand the basics of Spanish speaking and also learned a great deal about Spanish-speaking countries through the “Sol y viento” mini series and reading about the cultural practices in the textbook.”
- “The quizzes and Canvas discussions really helped me understand the material. The professor is very accommodating and made expectations for the class very clear.”
- “I enjoyed that we didn’t always do the same thing every class meeting, we would do a fun activity every now and then too.”
- “I really enjoy how the class is organized.”
- “I found it helpful that there were many different types of assignments, quizzes, etc. that all played a part in students’grades, so if they did not do as well in one area students still had the ability to succeed.”
- “The in-class activities really helped me to better understand the application of what I learned. Working with my classmates in class on various activities helped me greatly.”
- “The in-class activities are very helpful in learning the material. She makes the activities engaging and fun.”
- “The class material we learn is informative and useful – She helps her students if they don’t understand something and explains it in a way that is easy to understand – She wants to see her students succeed – When you don’t know a word or phrase she tells you want it means and how it can be put into a sentence – She values her students input – She helped me grasp concepts(such as grammar and spelling) that I was struggling in – She provides websites that makes learning the grammar easier(this helped me a lot because I struggled with grammar).”
- “Overall good teacher who definitely put a lot of effort into helping her students learn. Would like to have this instructor again for the next level of Spanish but mostly likely won’t since the FSU course catalog just enters in “staff” as the instructor for many classes like this.”
- “Gabrielle Isgar is an excellent instructor. She is extremely helpful and understanding of her students.”
Fall 2020 (SPN1121, 2 sections, REMOTE)
- “Very kind and understanding teacher, I appreciated all of our interactions on Zoom and found you to be very helpful. The course was well designed and executed, well done.”
- “I think that still having Zoom classes was helpful in practicing course material. I also really appreciated the additional web pages and other materials that were given to us to help study for exams.”
- “I loved the extra resources she was always willing to provide to help us if needed.”
- “She was engaging and aware of activities that would actually help us apply what we were learning.”
- “Having the class in two sections made talking more comfortable.”
- “This was one of the most organized and effective classes I have taken.”
- “She is amazing :)”
- “I found the in-person exercises were the most helpful. I’m not the biggest fan of Connect but there were many other ways to learn the material and I appreciated that.”
- “Gabbi is one of the best professors I have had at FSU. She is very understanding and responsive. She speaks good English and Spanish with no accent that makes it hard to understand either language, I believe that her tests and quizzes are both good representations of the material that has been taught in this course. She is also very good at communication and is very understanding that we are all learning and gives us various tools to do so.”
- “Mrs. Isgar was extremely helpful and did an outstanding job as a teacher. She was nice, funny, and got participation in a class that is difficult to get participation from even in person. I don’t think it was easy for her to do all of this over Zoom but she was very positive and I actually enjoyed going to class a lot. She did a great job.”
- “Fantastic teacher! Especially at such a hard time with everything online.”
Summer A 2020 (SPN1121, 1 section, REMOTE)
- “I really enjoyed taking Spanish online because she made our class even smaller with two different zoom meetings for two different groups of the class. This really forced us to speak more instead of hiding in a bigger class. I saw myself improving every day as I had to speak. With smaller groups, she was able to work more closely to help fix errors we were doing when speaking. Right before exams she does a review, other than the power point, and make sure we understand what we are about to get tested on.”
Spring 2020 (SPN1121, 2 sections, REMOTE)

- “The lessons always expanded on what we learned in Connect.”
- “Very helpful at answering questions and making the material understandable.”
- “Gabrielle Isgar’s instruction was awesome. I really felt that the activities we did in class helped me learn the content better than just doing the Connect HW. Gabrielle Isgar really helped me, as well as the entire class, fully understand the concepts we were learning. Having that face-to-face, in-class relationship allowed us to learn at our full potential. She took much care into making sure we not only learned the concepts but made sure we were able to understand and apply them.”
- “Always helped students where she could and answered all questions. If she didn’t know the answer she would find out and explain it to us.”
- “Gabbi was an amazing professor. She made me like going to Spanish class instead of dreading it. Always did everything possible to help when contacting her and always responded fast.”
- “Gabbi was a vet good teacher, attentive and kind as any teacher I’ve had. I highly recommend her as a teacher.”
- “She was excellent at explaining and helping with whatever we needed!”
- “I found that forcing us to do partner work made me actually work hard to apply what I was working. She was also super approachable and didn’t make me feel stupid for asking questions.”
- “Professor Isgar does a phenomenal job of making her students feel comfortable. In Spanish 1, I struggled a great deal with getting myself confident to even speak 1 phrase. after this semester, I have found myself speaking Spanish at home. It is an incredible feeling knowing that your professor believes in you and does everything to help you be a better student.”
- “This is the only review that I have written, and it’s because I wanted to express how great this professor was. She made the class fun, insightful, and most importantly comfortable. - “Gabbi was pretty much the best Spanish professor you can ask for coming into Spanish for the first time since high school. I fully expected to only pass this class with a C and take it as pass/fail, but after my first two tests grades I was convinced I would pass this class with an A and use it as a GPA booster. Gabbi balanced review activities along with entertaining learning activities perfectly, such as the basic grammar and vocab review and then would play a verb conjugation game. If I had the option to take Gabbi again next semester for my final semester of Spanish, I definitely would’ve.”
